Beware of chigger-like ticks after 15th of February
There is a form of chigger-tick present after Feb. 15th. We do not recommend hiking the trail after this date. If rain continues into November, regular ticks will be encountered through December. The trail is opened up by Cattle in November; watch out for cow pies. There is 100m change of elevation and a one-way hiking distance of 2.9k.
It is a renowned left-hand break for surfers; but only when the surf is really up.
The first half of the hike is made difficult by embedded rocks and small boulders in the trail. Caleta can also be accessed by a 4-wheel drive road that begins at Rancho Maralta, which is on the west side of the lake that is east of Chacala, or by boat from Chacala’s marina.
Google Map
If you click the numbered icons on the Google map, hiking instructions and pictures of that area appear on your screen. You need a special down-loaded plug-in to get it to appear in Google Earth; however, you may view it in map or terrain mode. The + in the map will zoom in on the trail.
