There is varied bird habitat in Chacala and surrounding the Inn, which makes it well-suited for bird watching. The Inn remains on the edge of the jungle with a copse of small trees, large trees and open cleared land. Since the Inn is situated on a hill, you have a birds’ eye view of much of the habitat.

A full-color guide of the Common Winter Birds of Chacala*. It is designed for both beginning birders and those new to the area. It is recommended that you print a color copy before coming to Chacala, as access to color printers here is limited.
Compilation of the Chacala Bird Guide and Checklist would not have been possible without Peter Küng. Peter was a world-class ornithologist who spent hours watching birds all around Chacala and from the third-floor balcony of the Fresh Breeze Inn. He passed away in 2017.

In black and white, the Birds of Chacala checklist*, is a fairly comprehensive list of the identified birds of Chacala. It is also recommended that you print this brochure before coming to Chacala. It now requires 8.5 x 14″ paper.
For a complete bird checklist of the area, Checklist of Birds found in San Blas, Nayarit by Thomas P. Ryan, 2003, is recommended. It is available at the Hotel Posada del Rey and Hotel Garza Canela in San Blas, and through www.buteobooks.com
